Thanks for the "S" correction. Also thanks, as I was going for an ancillary point to your post:
I was merely directing other people (besides yourself) to the FAQ. The FAQ says other things besides what you posted. I.e.:
I suspect that one of the things the FAQ implies is that the "startpage" version of Ixquick is the Fresno server, while the Ixquick version is the Netherlands server. Just a guess/hunch. But perhaps a significant distinction?

Vehicle Registration
I need to renew my vehicle registration sometime in the next month or so. I currently have NH plates registered to an old address there. I have confirmed with the town office that I can easily renew my plates and they will send the tags to my mailing address in CA. However, the car is registered in my name and I would like to change it to a NM LLC. Given what I have read on the forum it seems like that is a big no-no in NH. Does anyone have any suggestions for a particularly privacy minded state that is friendly to NM LLC registrations?

One of the most friendly states is WA (assuming you are a non-resident) because LLC addresses in Spain are allowed. However, I don't recall that NH was all that bad. Perhaps a NH driver can enlighten us both.

Ray, I'm not sure what you're trying to say in post 7497. That was the whole point of my previous post, to point out that by adding the 's' you will get an SSL encrypted search of StartPage (IXQuick) (free from the prying eyes of your ISP). You must have read my post completely wrong. Oh, and the 'S' goes AFTER the h-t-t-p - not BEFORE as you said in your post. The FAQ you pointed to clearly states what I said in my previous post. Again, you must have read my prior post wrong as you only repeated my whole point!

NM llc in NY for vehicle licensing

It can, but it is so difficult that I do not recommend using an LLC for titling a vehicle in NY state. Since 9/11, NY has been extremely sensitive about this. If some car bomb explodes, they understandably want to track down the owner of the vehicle.

It might be a good idea to read the Ixquick FAQ. By putting an S in front of the H-T-T-P when typing the URL, you can access Ixquick's search engine anonymously, even from your own ISP.
Also, the FAQ gives quite an eye opening discussion regarding privacy on the web.
Worth reading.

#7492, Drivers Licenses in 2 states
I used to move back and forth across the Columbia River, between Portland, Oregon, and Vancouver, Washington. Each that I moved, the new state's driver licensing agency would take the old state's driver license from me, saying that I was not allowed to carry both driver's licenses.
However, according to the old state's records, that old driver's license was still in effect! So, if I moved across the river, and then back again, and my driver's license had not expired, the DMV would just issue me a replacement license, as if I had lost the previous one!
So, at least at that time (more than twenty years ago), moving to another state and getting a driving license there did NOT have the side effect of canceling my old drivers license.
But, do NOT carry the physical license copies from both states in your wallet. (Indeed, following JJL's advice, I don't carry a drivers license in my wallet at all, but hide it in my car.)
If a traffic policeman should pull you over, he will be VERY suspicious if he sees that you are carrying more than one
driver's license, and matters will quickly escalate!
You could try returning to Colorado and asking for a replacement license, saying that you had lost the previous Colorado license. (Tell us what happens: inquiring minds want to know.) My guess is that, on payment of the appropriate fee and providing a valid Colorado address, a replacement license will be issued.

Drivers Licenses in 2 states
I recently got a DL in CA. They punched a hole in my CO license. If I applied for a license in NV or went back to CO and ask for a replacement license would they allow me to have a license in 2 or more states? Do they cross reference with other states?

mobility & minimalism
I've searched and couldn't find any mention of the following:
For those who truly want to be mobile and/or have the ability to leave somewhere on short notice (perhaps those who are subject to evacuation due to hurricanes and other natural disasters), being a minimalist and not having a lot of stuff is the way to go.
If you're still working on your emergency fund, selling stuff can be a way to pile up cash quicker. I've sold many books.
I've gotten rid of so much stuff that I could have my car packed and leave in an hour or less, leaving out furniture, of course, but my furniture is nothing special. My important documents are in an easily accessible holder that I can just pop into my laptop bag, and off I go!
I'd also like for those interested in mobility to think about if they want a pet or not. To have one can seriously compromise your options. I know people who really need to be mobile (for various reasons), but they have large dogs, which complicates their situation enormously.
I just wanted to bring this up as it seems to be something many people don't consider. I'd say being a minimalist or with stuff you don't mind leaving is essential to the HTBI mindset!

I totally agree about not having pets. Especially from a privacy viewpoint.

One just has to go online to the various people finders, such as Peekyou.com, Intelius, etc., and see all of the free info that is displayed about a person. I used the "opt-out" once and sent one of these companies the info they requested to remove the listing they had about me. ( full name, age, P.O. Box address, relatives, etc.) They did remove it, but within a couple months, it was back again. I don't know which is worse, to have the info displayed, or to send in the (temporary) opt-out which provides them with one's info. Doesn't seem to be any way to permanently have one's info deleted from these sites. Are there no means to restrict these companies from posting our info?

Thaddeus mentioned the StartPage search service (which, btw, is IXQuick). He gave a URL that is NOT secure from snooping. His ISP can see all of his searches with the web address he provided. The URL that *should* be used is one that ends with an 's' That s' is the difference between a secure, SSL-encrypted connection and a connection in clear text that your ISP can see. The same goes for another anonymous search service (Scroogle)....make sure you use their secure SSL-protected URL as well. Both offer the SSL URLs (just add the 's' as shown in the URL in the link below) - be sure you use them to prevent ISP snooping your searches.

Anonymous Campaign Contributions
I can't bear to stay on the sidelines anymore. I know that federal law requires the recipient of campaign contributions to provide the employer and occupation of anyone giving $200 or more. But if you give a smaller amount, like $40, is it illegal to use your ghost name to give campaign contributions?

Google's roving Street View spycam may blur your face, but it's got your number. The Street View service is under fire in Germany for scanning private WLAN networks, and recording users' unique Mac (Media Access Control) addresses, as the car trundles along.

Lost/Stolen Drivers License
My wallet was lost/stolen, which included my driver's license (which, thanks to HTBI, lists my GHOST address, hallelujah!)
Is there any other precaution I need to be aware of, in case anyone found my ID and is trying to use it?

Blippy/Google revealed bank info
It was a matter of time. Google Cache revealed the information.
Simply by typing a phrase into Google and specifying the results come from Blippy, page after page of results like DEBIT CARD PURCHASE AT DOMINO'S PIZZA #01, [redacted] MI ON 122109 FROM CARD#: 54243[redacted] appears.

Passport cards
In HTBI you say that we should use our passport for id and leave the license in the car. They are now coming out with a passport card that is the size of a license and is much easier to carry around than the passport. would you recommend using this as id now in place of the passport book?

No, because there is no reason to carry such a card around all the time. What if you lost your billfold or were robbed? I seldom have any need to show ID so most of the time my passport remains at home, hidden of course, and gathering dust.
In addition, my passport was issued before the chips were used.
